The Main purpose of this qualification is to help individuals new to Leadership improve their Leadership practise

Course Content

The content of the course is on; Understanding Leadership, and consists of:

  • The Leadership Role and Different Leadership Styes
  • Self Leadership and Understanding Ones Self
  • Connecting the Team with Vision and Strategy
  • Motivating and Developing the Team

Learning Outcomes – on completion the candidate should be able to:

  1. Explain the basic characteristics of the leadership role
  2. Describe at least three different styles of leadership and their strengths and limitations
  3. Explain how these leadership styles may be appropriate to different individuals, contexts and teams

Explain the importance of a leader being able to adapt different leadership styles to different situations:

Knowledge, Understanding and Skills

The basic characteristics of the leadership role in terms of:

    • taking responsibility
    • understanding and continuously working towards overall vision and strategy
    • translating strategy into objectives for teams and individuals
    • thinking ‘outside the box’
    • assisting change management
    • overcoming obstacles
    • communicating and motivating
    • supporting and developing teams and individuals
    • modelling appropriate behaviour
    • representing the team and feeding back its experiences and views
  • Models of leadership styles and their strengths and limitations
  • How different leadership styles may be appropriate to different situations, teams and individuals
  • The importance of being able to use different leadership styles in different situations and with different teams and individuals
    Plus at least 2 hours of one-to-one tutorial support
