This is a 2-day interactive programme for supervisory, middle and senior managers who may have reason for using disciplinary procedures whilst managing people. The module covers both formal and informal procedures including the roles and responsibilities for investigating alleged breaches in discipline and subsequently presenting evidence at a hearing

Programme Overview

This module relates to the application of legal, statutory and organisational requirements relating to potential breaches of discipline involving the people for whom you have responsibility. It includes both formal and informal disciplinary procedures and their application in the workplace. This is more appropriate for instances of unacceptable behaviour or failures to follow policies or procedures, rather than for dealing with poor performance for which counselling is more appropriate. .

Objectives

Participants will learn how to:

Differentiate between when counselling or disciplinary procedures are appropriate
Plan and prepare for informal and formal discipline procedures
Select the most appropriate location, time and environment
Participate in formal discipline procedures, maintain impartiality with clear and assertive communication including face to face contact, subsequent recording and confidentiality
Plan and conduct an investigation into an alleged breach if discipline
Differentiate between collaborated evidence, hearsay and balances of probability
Arrange and present evidence to a senior manager in an impartial manner
