Cognitive Behavioural Therapy – Introduction
Dates and Prices
This is a 2-day introduction course: either stand-alone or the first two days of the 12-day Cognitive Behavioural Therapy Training.
Unless indicated otherwise the first day of each module starts with registration at 09:00. The training starts promptly at 09:30 and ends at 17:30. On the second day the training starts at 09:30 and ends at 17:00.
Aims
To enable the delegate to deepen and enhance their understanding of how to apply cognitive behavioral approaches within their practice. The course leads to the worker being able to work ethically within their sphere of competence, under supervision, with people with common mental health problems.
Who it is for
Any person who is involved with individuals who have slight to medium issues, who would like to develop their use of the CBT approach within their practice with clients/ users and gain academic credit for their studies.
Between taught sessions students will be expected to complete homework, including excercises, and reflect on their findings e.g., they will monitor the activities they do which give them pleasure and a sense of achievement and notice their effect on their mood or complete a mood diary.
They will be expected to complete a portfolio both as a formative and assessment.
Eligibility
It is open to anyone who can demonstrate the academic ability to study at diploma, degree or postgraduate level and have access to supervision within their work
Outcomes
You will be able to:
- Demonstrate an evidence-based, in-depth knowledge and understanding of the theory and principles of CBT
- Develop a reflective understanding of your own style of working within the CBT model
- Outline the process of screening and assessment
- Show skills in therapeutic engagement and developing a therapeutic relationship
- Apply a range of CBT treatment approaches to users/ clients from diverse backgrounds with a variety of common mental health issues
- Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness and outcomes of CBT
- Demonstrate a critical awareness of the ethical and legal aspects of using CBT.
You will not be able to:
- Work with people with serious mental health problems or who are using risky behaviour to themselves or others
- Teach or supervise others in CBT
- Work with children
- Work with people with complex problems
- Work with therapeutic groups.
